Lothar Böhme was born in Berlin in 1938. After an apprenticeship as a decorator, he began studying in 1957 in the “Graphikklasse der Meisterschule für das Kunsthandwerk” (Graphics class at the master school for arts and crafts) in Berlin-Charlottenburg, which he left in 1961. Böhme has been working as an artist since 1981 and has also been a member of the Akademie der Künste (Academy of Arts), Berlin, since 1994. He belongs to the circle of the “Berliner Schule” (Berlin School), a group of artists that formed in the late 1960s in former East Berlin. Böhme lives and works in Berlin.
